PPI grades every pitch against all pitches in the same count. 100 is average, 10 points is one standard deviation. Click a pitcher to open his page.
Regular season. The dashed line is average (100).
Each bar is one game, above or below average. Postseason games included.
Regular season, pitch types thrown 20+ times. Arsenal+ compares a pitch only with pitches of the same type (130 = elite). IVB and HB are induced vertical and horizontal break in inches (positive HB is toward his arm side).

Every pitch changes the at-bat. A strike moves the batter into a worse count, a ball into a better one, and a ball in play has an expected result from its exit speed and angle. PPI measures how much each pitch lowered the batter's expected result, using what really happened to batters in that same count since 2023. It counts three things: the batter's overall expected result (xwOBA), his chance of reaching base (a walk counts), and his chance of hitting for power.
Each pitch is ranked against every pitch thrown in the same count, so a great 0-0 pitch and a great 3-2 pitch both score high. 100 is average and 10 points is one standard deviation: 110 beats about 84% of pitches, 120 about 98%. Season grades are adjusted for sample size, so a pitcher with few pitches is pulled toward 100.
PPI is the overall grade of the pitch. Arsenal+ grades only its physics: velocity, spin, movement, release and how it pairs with his fastball, ignoring where it went. It compares a pitch only with pitches of the same type: a fastball with fastballs, a curveball with curveballs. Command+ grades how close he came to his usual spot for that pitch, hitter side and count, and how costly a likely ball was in that count. Count+ measures how much of his work he does ahead in the count (more strikes than balls) and how little behind; pitchers who live ahead allow less damage, and it predicts next season's results. Projected PPI is 75% PPI plus 25% Arsenal+, the mix that best predicted the next season. Runs saved adds up how much better each pitch was than an average pitch in the same count, in runs.
The scouting grade is PPI minus 50, rounded to the nearest 5 and kept between 20 and 80.

Pitch-by-pitch Statcast data from Baseball Savant, regular season and postseason, 2023 to 2026. Each season is graded by models trained only on the other seasons, so no grade comes from a model that saw that season. This page shows season, pitch-type and game summaries; pitch-by-pitch report cards are in the full ProPitching Index app.
